The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

In response to media enquiries on the preparatory work for the 2019 District Council Ordinary Election, the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) gives the following reply today (October 9):

The EAC is an independent, apolitical and impartial body. As in the past, the EAC is committed and will make the utmost effort to ensure that public elections are held in an open, fair and honest manner.

"The District Council Ordinary Election to be held on November 24 is an important platform for over 4.13 million registered electors to elect their representatives," said the spokesman for the EAC.

He added that the EAC is aware of the successive occurrence of violent incidents in society recently, including assault of public figures and vandalisms of offices of members of the Legislative Council and District Council. Hong Kong has all along had a very good election culture. The EAC does not want to see any threats or violence in the election. If any such complaints are received, the EAC will refer them to the relevant law enforcement agencies for follow-up action.

If anyone is not satisfied with the electoral arrangements, they can make complaints or make election petitions through judicial proceedings to resolve the disputes.
