The Government today (April 2) started distributing anti-epidemic service bags to all households in Hong Kong with a view to enhancing the public's anti-epidemic awareness and capability. The Education Bureau (EDB) has been actively participating in the service of this distribution work. With the joint efforts of 40 volunteer teams comprising over 120 staff members from different divisions of the EDB, school heads and teachers of government schools, the service bags have been delivered to residents and grassroots families living in "three-nil" buildings in the Yau Tsim Mong District.
The Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung; the Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms Michelle Li; and the Under Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, visited a number of households, including newly arrived families and ethnic minority families, and distributed to these households the anti-epidemic service bags each containing masks, proprietary Chinese medicines, rapid antigen test kits, an information booklet on epidemic prevention and a message card.
Mr Yeung said, "The fifth wave of COVID-19 epidemic remains rampant. With the full support of the Central Authorities, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has implemented a series of measures to stabilise the epidemic situation with the target of reducing infections, severe cases and deaths. Moreover, our society needs positivity at this juncture. Shouldering the responsibility in nurturing the next generation, the EDB takes the opportunity to promote values education by giving out souvenirs with the theme 'be grateful and treasure what we have, stay positive and optimistic', such as keyrings, to encourage initiatives to care for others, stay empathetic, always be grateful, cherish everything they have, and face the challenges of life and growth positively and optimistically."
Ms Li said, "Colleagues of the EDB have rendered their full support and actively participated in the anti-epidemic work of the HKSAR Government. In addition to conducting ten 'restriction-testing declaration' operations since March till now by about 450 staff members, more than 600 staff members of various grades of the EDB, government schools, the Student Finance Office and the University Grants Committee Secretariat participated in the packaging and distribution of anti-epidemic service bags, fully demonstrating colleagues' commitment, professionalism, efficiency, concerted efforts and eagerness to serve the community. The EDB hopes to extend our best wishes and regards to households when distributing the service bags."
The EDB in its entirety has been united and sparing no efforts in actively participating in anti-epidemic work, with the common goal of combating the epidemic together with Hong Kong citizens, to enable people and students to resume normal life and happy school life as soon as possible.
