As the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) will issue Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 at 6.20pm today (September 5), classes of evening schools will be suspended today. When the HKO issues Pre-no.8 Special Announcement this afternoon, classes of all day schools, including secondary and primary schools, will also be suspended. Schools should implement contingency measures to ensure the safety of students. They should ensure that conditions are safe before allowing students to return home.
Meanwhile, as the HKO expects that gale winds associated with Yagi to affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary tonight and tomorrow morning. Local winds will strengthen progressively and weather will deteriorate. There will be heavy squally showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. Considering the latest development and the HKO's forecast of the tropical cyclone, the Education Bureau announces that classes of all day schools, including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens, and kindergartens-cum-child care centres, will remain suspended tomorrow (September 6) in order to ensure students' safety. If classes of evening schools are required to be suspended tomorrow, the EDB will make the announcement in due course depending on the development of the tropical cyclone.
