The Eastern District Fire Safety Carnival in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China was held today (September 15) at Eastern District Cultural Square, Shau Kei Wan, to convey fire safety knowledge to residents of the district and also let them share the joy of the National Day.

The Carnival, organised by the Working Group of Eastern District Fire Safety Committee and supported by the Eastern District Office and the Fire Services Department (FSD), is one of the signature events of Eastern District in celebrating the 70th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Carnival featured a rich variety of activities, with Fireboat No. 1 "Elite" from the FSD giving an impressive water spray performance to open the Carnival. A display of Fireboat No. 4, a Fire Major Pump, Mobile Firefighting Supporting Machine LUF60, an ambulance and a PBI Matrix Structural Firefighting Protective Suit (also known as the "Gold Suit") was presented by the FSD. Members of the public could have a close look at and take photographs of the fire-fighting equipment. There were also singing and cultural performances by artist and local organisations as well as handicraft and game stalls for public participation.

The officiating guests of the kick-off ceremony of the Carnival included the District Officer (Eastern), Mr Simon Chan; the Division Commander (Hong Kong East) of the FSD, Mr Ronald Lau; the Vice-Chairman of the Eastern District Council, Mr Chiu Chi-keung; and the Chairman of the Eastern District Fire Safety Committee, Mr David Chiu.
