DH’s North District Student Health Service Centre officially opens

The Shek Wu Hui Student Health Service Centre (SWH SHSC) under the Student Health Service of the Department of Health (DH) started providing services today (September 2) at 9/F, North District Community Health Centre Building (NDCHCB), 3 Wai Wo Street, Sheung Shui. The reprovisioned centre is named the North District Student Health Service Centre (ND SHSC). All primary and secondary day school students who have registered with the SWH SHSC earlier through their schools will be arranged to receive their 2024/25 annual health assessment service at the ND SHSC. All bookings will not be affected.

With the completion of the NDCHCB, the ND SHSC can start operations at this new venue, which is nearly twice the size of the SWH SHSC, providing a more spacious and comfortable environment for students and their accompanying parents. The ND SHSC will be able to provide services to about 34 000 students every school year, satisfying the increasing demand for student health services in North District. The DH has earlier notified all students who had scheduled appointments to receive health assessment services at the SWH SHSC via their schools and text messages about the relocation.

In addition to the existing facilities provided by the SWH SHSC including clients' Records Office, Measurement Room, Health Education Rooms, Vision and Hearing Screening Rooms, Interview Rooms, Consultation Rooms and Moiré Topography Room, services of the Special Assessment Centre (SAC), i.e. services provided by optometrist, audiologist, dietitian and clinical psychologist, will also be available at the ND SHSC on a part-time basis. The SAC services are provided on the same floor as the ND SHSC to deliver one-stop services to clients, eliminating their need to travel long distances to the SACs located in other districts.

The Student Health Service under the DH provides a series of health services designed to cater for the health needs of students at various stages of their development. These services include health assessment and screening for health problems related to growth, nutrition, vision, hearing, spine and psychological health, with individual health counselling and health education. Health talks on special topics are conducted regularly at the centres.

Apart from the SHSC, the School Immunisation Teams North District office of the Centre for Health Protection will also be relocated from 3/F, North District Government Offices Building to 9/F, NDCHCB on September 6 to provide mop-up vaccination services for primary students. Parents of students who have made vaccination appointments at the North District Sub-office have been informed of the new address.
