Development Bureau imposes further regulating action on contractor involved in fatal industrial incident at West Kowloon
A spokesman for the Development Bureau (DEVB) said today (September 27) that the DEVB had imposed further regulating action on the contractor concerned in relation to the fatal industrial incident at West Kowloon on September 24.
The spokesman said that based on the nature of works involved, the DEVB had immediately suspended the contractor concerned from tendering for the Air-conditioning Installation category of public works contracts since September 25. Taking into account the seriousness of the incident and having consulted the relevant department, the DEVB decided to extend the regulating action to all categories under the List of Approved Suppliers of Materials and Specialist Contractors for Public Works (the List) (i.e. including the Fire Service Installation and Plumbing Installation categories apart from the Air-conditioning Installation category). The concerned contractor is currently the contractor of a public works contract under the Air-conditioning Installation category. The contractor does not have public works contracts under the other two categories. The relevant department will closely monitor the above-mentioned works to ensure site safety.
The DEVB will continue to follow up on the incident in a serious manner. Subject to the investigation findings of the fatal industrial incident, the DEVB may impose further regulating actions on the contractor concerned afterwards, including extension of the period of suspension from tendering for public works contracts and even removal from the List.
