The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr John Lee, today (December 20) congratulated all elected members of the 2021 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election and made the following statement:

This election is an important milestone in implementing "patriots administering Hong Kong" after the improvements made to the electoral system, and signifies Hong Kong's turn from an era of destruction to an era of construction. I am pleased that the first LegCo General Election held after the electoral system was improved was conducted smoothly in a fair, open, just and orderly manner. I congratulate the 90 elected members of the seventh-term LegCo.

In this election, every constituency was contested, demonstrating broad representation, balanced participation, political inclusiveness and fair competition.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government looks forward to constructive interaction and communication with the new-term LegCo, enabling LegCo to monitor the Government while tackling various issues of Hong Kong, seeking happiness for the people and building a brighter future under the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong".

As the Chief Secretary for Administration, I and other Principal Officials look forward to building and maintaining constructive communication and co-operation with the new-term LegCo members in taking forward and implementing the various measures set out in the Chief Executive’s Policy Address.

I also thank all the civil servants and public officers, including serving and retired colleagues, who have participated in the organisation of this election, as well as the non-official personnel who have provided assistance and service. Their dedication and efforts have significantly contributed to this successful election.
