Correctional officers stop detainee committing self-harm
Correctional officers stopped a detainee committing self-harm in Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution today (April 15).
At 10.42am today, the 32-year-old male detainee was found emotionally unstable and banging his head against the grille gate inside a hospital ward. Officers at the scene immediately stopped him and called for reinforcement. The detainee was found conscious. He was required to be sent to a public hospital for further treatment after receiving examination and treatment by the institution Medical Officer.
A clinical psychologist of the department will follow up on the case.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent persons in custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institutional facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The detainee was detained in Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution under the Immigration Ordinance in November 2021.
