Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     Dragon Construction Limited and Yat Fat Engineering Limited were fined $75,000 and $65,000 respectively at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (August 9) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
      
     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 8, 2021, at a residential estate renovation site in Happy Valley, Hong Kong. A bamboo scaffold erected at the external walls of the estate buildings suddenly collapsed during adverse weather. A foundation worker trapped by the scaffold became unconscious and passed away on the same day.
