Kuen Cheong Construction & Engineering Company Limited and the proprietor of a contractor were each fined $64,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (June 16) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 3, 2019, at a building construction site in Tin Shui Wai. While a suspended overhead metal I-beam was being dismantled, it suddenly collapsed and struck a worker underneath. The worker sustained serious injuries and passed away on the same day.
