Dong-Ah Geological Engineering Company Ltd was fined $32,000 at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today (March 11) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on June 30, 2020, at a reclamation site of the Hong Kong International Airport three-runway system project. While a gang of workers was engaged in repairing a winch drum of a machine on the site, a wire rope of the winch drum suddenly flipped and struck two of the workers. One worker sustained serious head injury and died later while the other sustained bone fracture.
