The spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre made the following announcement today (July 12) regarding the Rhinovirus/Enterovirus cluster of cases:
One more 15-year-old female patient, who stayed in the Developmental Disabilities Unit with the Rhinovirus/Enterovirus cluster of cases announced yesterday (July 11), has presented with respiratory symptoms since July 9. Her viral test result was positive for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. The patient has been transferred to a Paediatrics and Adolescents ward for further treatment and is in serious condition.
In addition, a male patient and two female patients (aged 10 to 31) in a Paediatrics and Adolescents ward have presented with fever since July 5. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. One of the patients is in serious condition, while the other two patients are in stable condition. They are being treated in isolation.
Enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted according to prevailing guidelines. Droplet and contact precautions, hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfection of the environment and equipment have also been strengthened. The concerned ward of the Developmental Disabilities Unit and the cubicle of the Paediatrics and Adolescents ward have also suspended visiting arrangements.
The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation in the ward concerned. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
