The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokesperson for United Christian Hospital made the following announcement today (March 31):
Four patients in a paediatric ward presented with mild respiratory symptoms since March 29. As a precautionary measure, the hospital arranged appropriate tests for all patients in the ward and the test results for a total of 10 patients (seven boys and three girls, aged 3 months to 6 years old) were positive for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. Apart from one patient who has been discharged, the remaining patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended to conduct full investigation as well as thorough cleaning and disinfection. Stringent droplet and contact precautions and enhancement of hand hygiene for staff and paediatric patients will be carried out. Healthcare workers will continue to closely monitor other paediatric patients in the ward.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
