Cluster of Norovirus cases in United Christian Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for United Christian Hospital (UCH) made the following announcement today (June 30):
 
     Five paediatric patients (aged 6 to 12 years old) and three staff members in a paediatric ward of UCH had presented with vomiting or diarrhoea symptoms and were positive to Norovirus after viral test since 18 June. One patient has been discharged and the remaining patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition. The concerned staff resumed duty after sick leave.
 
     Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines, including a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the ward concerned, stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene of staff and patients. All other patients and staff in the ward are under close medical surveillance.
 
     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
