The spokesperson for Tung Wah Eastern Hospital made the following announcement today (June 26):
Four patients (aged 74 to 84) of a male pulmonary rehabilitation ward have been confirmed as having Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) since May 5. Among the patients, an 83-year-old patient passed away on May 15 due to his underlying illness while the others are still hospitalised under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.
The following enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted in the ward concerned:
- Enhancing disinfection and cleaning;
- Applying stringent contact precautions, including dedicated use of clinical equipment for MDRA carriers and enhanced hand hygiene; and
- Performing environmental sampling for monitoring the effectiveness of measures.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation of the ward.
