Cluster of influenza A and Covid-19 cases in TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     â€‹The spokesperson for TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital (WTSH) made the following announcement today (January 13):
      
     Fourteen male patients in an Infirmary Ward in WTSH had developed fever and respiratory symptoms since January 11. After nasopharyngeal swab specimen testing, eight patients (aged 41 to 75) were positive for influenza and the remaining six patients (aged 43 to 64) were positive for the COVID-19 virus. The patients concerned are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.
      
     The hospital will continue the contact tracing investigation in accordance with the prevailing guidelines. The following enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted:
           
     1. thorough cleaning and disinfection of the wards concerned;
     2. enhanced patient and environmental screening procedures; and
     3. application of stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene of staff and patients.
      
     The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation of the patients. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
