The spokesperson for TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital (WTSH) made the following announcement today (September 6):
Three female patients (aged 71 to 86) of a rehabilitation and extended care ward in WTSH have been confirmed as being carriers of Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) upon testing since August 28. One patient is hospitalised in isolation in WTSH and one patient has been transferred to Cheshire Home, Shatin for further medical care in isolation. The patients concerned did not have clinical symptoms and are in stable condition. The remaining patient has been discharged.
The ward concerned will continue to adopt the following enhanced infection control measures:
1. Enhanced patient and environmental screening procedures;
2. Continued application of stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene for staff and patients; and
3. Enhanced cleaning and disinfection for the environment and facilities of the ward.
The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation in the ward concerned. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
