The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (November 12):
Four patients (aged 56 to 71) in a male adult psychiatric ward of CPH have been confirmed as carriers of Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae since November 6. Three of them are being treated under isolation and in stable condition. The remaining one had passed away due to his underlying disease.
The ward concerned has adopted the following enhanced infection control measures:
- Enhanced patient and environmental screening procedures;
- Continued application of stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene for staff and patients; and
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfection for the environment and facilities of the ward.
The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation in the ward concerned. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
