The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, today (June 25) made the following statement on his departure:

I joined the Government in 1972, was appointed as the Secretary for Labour and Welfare in July 2007 and as the Chief Secretary for Administration in January 2017. It has been my true honour and privilege and given me much satisfaction to have served the Hong Kong community for nearly 50 years in various positions, especially in my service for the Country and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as well as my participation in the implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" since Hong Kong's return to the Motherland.

I am truly grateful to the Central People's Government and all Chief Executives for their trust and support over the years. I also wholeheartedly thank government colleagues, legislators, various sectors of the community, the media and members of the public for their support and assistance all along.

I must also express my heartfelt thanks to my family. The unfailing support, encouragement and understanding that they have given me over the years has provided a strong impetus to my work.

In future, I would be glad to continue to serve the community and contribute to the Country, should opportunities arise.

I sincerely wish that Hong Kong would maintain its long-term stability and prosperity. I also wish all citizens of Hong Kong good health and happiness.
