The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (November 6) signed a works contract with Bouygues Travaux Publics for the Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel project. The works mainly comprise the design and construction of a 3.4-kilometre-long dual two-lane trunk road with 3.1 kilometres in the form of tunnels, two ventilation buildings at the two ends of the trunk road, and associated works. The total cost of the contract is about $10.918 billion.
Constituting the middle section of Route 6, Trunk Road T2 and the Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel will connect the Central Kowloon Route in the west and the Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel in the east. Route 6 will be an important component of Hong Kong's strategic transport network, providing an east-west express road link between West Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O New Town. Anticipated to be fully commissioned in 2026, the route will relieve traffic congestion in Kowloon East, Kowloon West and Tseung Kwan O. By then, the journey time between Yau Ma Tei and Tseung Kwan O during peak hours is estimated to take only 12 minutes.
The CEDD will progressively roll out other works contracts under the Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel project. The whole project is scheduled for completion in 2026.
