The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (March 12) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr Peter Wong.

"Mr Wong was a patriotic entrepreneur who had been investing actively in the Mainland since the beginning of the reform and opening up of the country, contributing to the development of the nation and promoting the development of Hong Kong's commerce and trade in the Mainland. He had long been a Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress, having taken up the role in 1993, and took part in national affairs and was actively involved in the preparatory work for Hong Kong's return to the motherland. He was enthusiastic in serving the community, making significant contributions to such areas as education, youth development and cultural exchanges in the Mainland and Hong Kong. He was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2003.

"I was grieved to learn of his sudden passing. On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family," Mrs Lam said.
