CAS members preliminarily test positive for COVID-19

â€‹The Civil Aid Service (CAS) has learned that two of its members preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19 today (February 9). The CAS is highly concerned about the cases.

The two members were on duty from the afternoon till the night on February 7 and 8 respectively at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre (PBQC) and they had used some of the facilities in the CAS Headquarters before reporting for duty and after going off duty. Thorough cleaning and disinfection has been arranged for those facilities. Those who have been to the locations during the specified periods have to undergo testing and their duties will be suspended until they have obtained the test results. Given that the locations subject to compulsory testing are limited, it is estimated that only a small number of CAS personnel are required to undergo compulsory testing and there will be no impact on the management of the PBQC.

The PBQC has arranged thorough cleaning and disinfection of the areas where the two members worked. As all of the personnel who were on duty at the PBQC wore suitable personal protective gear, no other personnel have been listed as close contacts and have been required to undergo quarantine by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) so far.

The CAS has strengthened the cleaning and disinfection of the workspace of the CAS Headquarters and will maintain close liaison with the CHP to help trace suspected infections. Meanwhile, all CAS members and departmental staff have been reminded to strictly follow and implement various disease prevention measures, as well as enhance the efforts to observe personal hygiene.

Currently, the CAS manpower is sufficient and the service provided at different quarantine facilities remains normal.
