The spokesperson of Caritas Medical Centre made the following announcement today (December 8) regarding a nurse of the Operating Theatre preliminarily confirmed positive to COVID-19:
A female nurse of the Operating Theatre has onset of throat irritation since December 4 and attended Accident and Emergency Department yesterday (December 7). She was arranged to undergo deep throat saliva test and the test result was positive to COVID-19 on the same day. She is currently receiving treatment under isolation in the hospital with stable condition.
The feamale nurse concerned was on leave from November 23 to December 6 and resumed duty yesterday. She attended a nurse training course at Yan Chai Hospital on December 5 during her leave. The hospital's infection control team conducted contact tracing and identified three staff members who had meal or chatting with the nurse without mask protection in changing room. They are classified as close contacts and require quarantine. The nurse also contacted three orthopedic patients. The three patients are classified as other contacts and required viral test and medical surveillance for 28 days. Contact tracing is in progress.
The hospital completed thorough cleansing and disinfection for the department concerned. The hospital would continue to closely monitor the health condition of the staff members and patients and communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation.
