​The Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC) published a notice in the Gazette today (April 18) to declare one nomination for the 2022 Chief Executive (CE) election as valid. The CERC also determined seven registrations of ex-officio members of Election Committee (EC) as valid.
In accordance with Annex I to the Basic Law, the CERC is responsible for reviewing and confirming the eligibility of candidates for the office of the CE and membership of the EC (including ex-officio members). The CERC will decide whether the person concerned complies with the legal requirements and conditions of upholding the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and bearing allegiance to the HKSAR of the PRC.
Candidate for the office of the CE
By the close of the nomination period of the 2022 CE Election on April 16, the Returning Officer received one nomination form. The CERC has reviewed the eligibility of the candidate and determined the nomination as valid.
Registrations of EC ex-officio members
In accordance with section 5J of the Chief Executive Election Ordinance (Cap. 569) (the Ordinance), a person holding a specified office under Part 2A of the Schedule may register as an ex-officio member of the EC.
The Registration and Electoral Office had received seven registrations of ex-officio members arising from changes of holders of specified offices. After review, the CERC determined that these seven registrations are valid. The subsectors and specified offices involved are listed below:

​The CERC is chaired by the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, with three official members (the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai and the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung) and three non-official members (Miss Elsie Leung Oi-sie, Mrs Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai and Professor Lawrence Lau Juen-yee).
