Buildings Department issues investigation order regarding fallen rendering from external wall of industrial building in Tong Mei Road, Mong Kok
With regard to an incident of fallen rendering from the external wall of an industrial building in Tong Mei Road, Mong Kok today (July 10), the property management company of the building had taken remedial actions immediately and removed the loose finishes and rendering on the external wall, as required by the Buildings Department (BD). The BD had also issued an investigation order to the concerned owners' corporation this afternoon, requiring the appointment of an Authorized Person to conduct an investigation of the concerned external wall and to submit a report on the investigation and proposed remedial proposal.
Upon receiving a notification from the Police around 11am today about fallen rendering from the external wall of Fuk Keung Industrial Building at 66 Tong Mei Road, the BD officers were immediately deployed to carry out a site inspection. Officers at the scene found that part of the finishes and rendering had fallen off from the window eave of a unit on the 4th floor of block A of the building facing Tong Mei Road. No obvious danger to the overall building structure was noted. The subject building is 43 years old and is 15 storeys in height.
The BD immediately requested the property management company of the building to take remedial actions. The property management company arranged a registered contractor to remove the loose finishes and rendering on the external wall of the building facing Tong Mei Road by using a lifting platform immediately. The company had also arranged a contractor to erect scaffolding on the external wall of the building tomorrow (July 11) morning to commence a detailed investigation and repair works to ensure safety. The BD will continue to closely follow up the case.
