Mike Hookem MEP – “Ted Heath betrayed the fishermen and Theresa May will do exactly the same!”

UKIP fisheries spokesman, Mike Hookem MEP, yesterday accused the Tories of planning to “betray” the UK’s fishing industry, saying, “Ted Heath betrayed the fishermen… and Theresa May will do exactly the same!”

Mr Hookem’s comments came as he launched UKIP’s new “Future for Fishing” policy, which aims to return the UK’s fishing industry to Westminster control; and find investment to rebuild our fishing fleet.

UKIP’s vision for the future of British fishing includes restoring our sovereignty and control over the UK’s entire 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), potentially worth a massive £6.3 billion to the British economy. Other measures include withdrawing from the 1964 London convention, and introducing a time-limited, paid license fee option for selected foreign flagged vessels to fish within the UK’s territorial waters during the industries rebuilding period.

Tories will let us down on immigration

The failure of the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd to answer simple questions on immigration today shows that the Tories are “completely at sea”, says John Bickley, the UKIP immigration spokesman.

Bickley who will be launching the UKIP immigration policy tomorrow attacked Rudd after she repeatedly failed to commit to the long standing Tory policy of tens of thousands net immigration figures per year.

UKIP Deputy Leader Peter Whittle today announced that he will stand for Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock.

He said “In 2015 UKIP put in a very strong showing in the election and came a strong second in South Basildon and East Thurrock, and I hope to do one better this time.

“Basildon and East Thurrock voted overwhelmingly to leave the European Union last year and deserves an MP who will truly stand up for their views.

“UKIP are the only party that want to see the type of Brexit that people voted for last June, so that we can get back control of our borders and our laws.

We are victims of our own success but a bright future still lays ahead

The UKIP Leader, Paul Nuttall has issued the following statement following the local election results:

It’s been a difficult night.

In the local elections yesterday many excellent UKIP representatives lost their seats on county councils despite campaigning hard for re-election.

Frankly, there is nothing they could have done in the face of a big national swing to the Tories.

Each one of our former councillors should be immensely proud of the contribution they have made not only to their local communities but also to the cause that our party was set up to achieve: the restoration of the United Kingdom as an independent, self-governing country.

Happy retirement Prince Philip

Responding to the news of Prince Philip’s retirement from public service UKIP Leader Paul Nuttall MEP said, “Today we should honour the life of service to our Queen and nation by Prince Philip.

“For over 60 years he has been a dedicated public servant, and deserves our great thanks. Happy retirement Sir.”

UKIP Deputy Leader Peter Whittle AM added, “Prince Philip has been the very model of public duty at its best and utterly steadfast in his support of the Queen.

“We in UKIP offer him our very best wishes for well earned rest from public life.”
