Prince of Wales Hospital announces a staff member tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
 
     The spokesman for the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) made the following announcement today (January 23) regarding one patient care assistant (PCA) who tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19:

     A 50-year-old PCA of PWH, who lives in Yat Kwai House in Kwai Chung Estate and had undergone compulsory testing on January 21, was preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19 and now is being treated under isolation in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre with stable condition.

     The concerned PCA is responsible for cleansing and assisting in preparation of supplies in the Operating Theatre. She was on duty on January 19 and her COVID-19 test result from compulsory testing was negative on the same night. She had mild throat discomfort and myalgia on January 20, consulted a general practitioner and had not undergone COVID-19 test. She did not perform any high-risk clinical procedures and was equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment, while working in the operating theatre on January 21 from 7.30am to 10am.

     The hospital’s infection control team has conducted contact tracing and no staff members are classified as close contacts. For the sake of prudence, around 140 staff members, who worked in the same shifts with the concerned PCA on January 19 and 21, have been arranged to undergo COVID-19 tests. The hospital has also arranged six patients who are classified as other contacts to undergo COVID-19 test.

     Thorough cleansing and disinfection has been arranged for the operating theatre. PWH will continue to closely monitor the patients and staff members’ health conditions and communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation. read more

Princess Margaret Hospital announces a staff member tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesman for Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) made the following announcement today (January 23) regarding a patient care assistant (PCA) who tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19:

     A 53-year-old PCA of PMH had sore throat on January 21. She took the COVID-19 test by self-purchased rapid antigen test kit on January 22 and the result was preliminarily positive. She attended the Accident and Emergency Department of PMH in the evening and now is being treated under isolation in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre with stable condition.

     The PCA concerned works at a ward of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of PMH. She is responsible for assisting nurses in healthcare procedures. She does not perform any high-risk clinical procedures and is equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment at work.

     The PCA concerned visited a friend who lives in Yat Kwai House in Kwai Chung Estate and had meal together on January 16.

     The hospital’s infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Two inpatients in the ward concerned are classified as close contacts. Both of them are tested negative for COVID-19. Another PCA who works in the same ward is also classified as a close contact. Her current test result for COVID-19 is negative.

     Admission to the ward concerned has been suspended. Thorough cleaning and disinfection has been arranged. PMH will continue to communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation. read more

Certain Labour Department counter services affected by compulsory testing

     The Labour Department (LD) today (January 23) announced that, arising from the Government’s exercise of the power under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulation (Cap. 599J) and the publication on January 22 in the Gazette of a compulsory testing notice that requires any person who stayed at the LD, 10/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, Sham Shui Po, for more than one hour during the specified period (i.e. January 17 to 21) to undergo a COVID-19 nucleic acid test, certain LD counter services will be affected by compulsory testing.

     The service counters of the Minor Employment Claims Adjudication Board, the Labour Relations Division (Kowloon West Branch Office), the Employees’ Compensation Division, the Occupational Medicine Unit (Kowloon), the Operations Division (Kowloon Region) of the Occupational Safety Service and the Labour Inspection Division on the 10/F of Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices will suspend services from tomorrow (January 24) until further notice. Members of the public who have made prior service appointments with these offices will be informed of the alternative arrangements individually.

     The LD will maintain close liaison with the Centre for Health Protection in its anti-epidemic work. It will continue to implement various disease prevention measures, and remind all staff to stay vigilant in regard to personal hygiene at all times. If they feel unwell, they should seek medical advice immediately and inform the department.
