Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     A contractor was fined $124,000 at Eastern Magistrates’ Courts today (July 21) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on July 7, 2022, at a building demolition site at Robinson Road. A worker, while working on the roof floor of a building, fell through a floor opening to the ground floor. The worker sustained serious injuries and passed away on the same day. read more

Proposed amendments to covered elevated walkway along Wai Yip Street and Sheung Yee Road in Kowloon Bay gazetted

     The Government gazetted today (July 21) the proposed amendments to the works for the covered elevated walkway with travellators along Wai Yip Street and Sheung Yee Road in Kowloon Bay, in order to tally with the revised design of the covered elevated walkway.
      
     Details of the proposed amendments are set out in the Annex. The amendment plan and amendment scheme are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:

Proposed road works adjacent to Fo Tan Nullah gazetted

     The Government gazetted today (July 21) the proposed road works for strengthening the connectivity and walkability of the footpath network in the surrounding areas of the existing Fo Tan Nullah adjacent to Kwei Tei Street, Fo Tan Road, Fo Tan Village and Yuen Wo Road.

Tenders invited for ground investigation works for development of New Territories North

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (July 21) gazetted a notice to invite tenders for the contract for Ground Investigation Works for Development of the New Territories North (Contract No. ND/2022/02). The closing time for the tender is noon on September 1.

     The ground investigation works mainly include drillholes, trial pits, groundwater monitoring, utility survey and associated in-situ and laboratory tests.

     The works are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2023 and will take about 18 months to complete.

     The CEDD has commissioned AECOM Asia Company Limited to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors may obtain the forms of tender and further particulars from the company at 12/F, Grand Central Plaza, Tower 2, 138 Shatin Rural Committee Road, Sha Tin.

CFS urges public not to consume a batch of Vietnamese coconut water drink without best before date

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (July 21) urged the public not to consume a batch of coconut water drink imported from Vietnam. The concerned products did not indicate the best before date according to the requirements stipulated in Food and Drugs (Composition and Labelling) Regulations (Cap. 132W). The trade should also stop using or selling the affected product immediately should they possess it.

     Details of the product are as follows:

Place of origin: Vietnam
Volume: 330ml
Importer: Fortune Mart (Hong Kong) Limited
Best before date: no indication

     “The CFS received a notification from the importer that the above-mentioned product did not indicate the best before date. For the sake of prudence, the importer has voluntarily stopped sales and removed from shelves the affected product and initiated a recall. Members of the public can identify the affected product from the package without the best before date and batch number. Members of the public may call the importer’s hotline at 2488 6808 during office hours for enquiries about the recall,” a spokesman for the CFS said.

     The CFS will alert the trade, continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action. Should there be sufficient evidence, prosecution will be instituted. The investigation is ongoing. read more
