SCST congratulates Cheung Ka-long on winning gold medal at Paris Olympics

     The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (July 29, Paris Time) congratulated Hong Kong fencing athlete Cheung Ka-long on winning a gold medal in Men’s Foil Individual event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
      
     Mr Yeung said in Paris, “With his exceptional performance, Cheung Ka-long displayed the demeanour of a Hong Kong athlete in the Olympic Games. Same as other Hong Kong citizens, I am thrilled and proud that Cheung Ka-long went from strength to strength in this competition of highest level and defended the title. He deserves our applause for winning gold medals in two consecutive Olympic Games. I am very excited for witnessing the Hong Kong, China Delegation claiming a gold medal in Paris once again.”
 
     The Hong Kong, China Delegation has so far won three medals, the details are as follows:

CE congratulates Cheung Ka-long on winning gold medal at Paris Olympics

     â€‹Hong Kong fencing athlete Cheung Ka-long today (July 29, Paris time) won the gold medal in the Men’s Foil Individual event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. This is the second gold medal won by the Hong Kong, China Delegation at these Olympic Games. The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Cheung and his coach.

     “Cheung Ka-long demonstrated his excellence, persevered, and gave full play to his skills in the competitions. After making history for the Hong Kong fencing team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, he has once again achieved a brilliant result with his great performance, winning a well-deserved gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games. His outstanding achievements are heartening and have become a source of pride for the people of Hong Kong,” Mr Lee said.

     Cheung has achieved outstanding results in recent years. He won the gold medal in the Men’s Foil Individual event at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou. He also won the gold medal in the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. read more

ExCo Non-official Members congratulate Siobhan Bernadette Haughey on winning Olympic bronze medal for Hong Kong

The following is issued on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

     Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Non-official Members) today (July 30) extended their warmest congratulations to Hong Kong swimming athlete Siobhan Bernadette Haughey for winning the bronze medal for Hong Kong in the Women’s 200m Freestyle event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. They also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to her coach and the swimming team.

     The Convenor of ExCo Non-official Members, Mrs Regina Ip, said, “After winning two silver medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey kept up her efforts and stood out among the finalists in the race through her outstanding swimming skills, winning the bronze medal. Her achievement has made all Hong Kong people proud.”

     The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (July 29, Paris Time) extended his congratulations to Hong Kong swimming athlete Siobhan Bernadette Haughey on winning a bronze medal in Women’s 200m Freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
      
     Mr Yeung said in Paris, “Siobhan Bernadette Haughey went to full lengths and claimed a medal. Together with other Hong Kong citizens, I cheer for her with excitement. She is also commendable for winning in two consecutive Olympic Games. I wish Hong Kong athletes more sterling results in the Paris Olympics.”

     “Siobhan demonstrated superb skills and performed at her best in the competition. She showcased her power and strength as an elite athlete and achieved an outstanding result again of capturing a bronze medal, after winning two silver medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. All Hong Kong people and I are glad and proud of her great performance,” Mr Lee said.

     Haughey has achieved outstanding results in recent years. She won the gold medal in the Women’s 100m and 200m Freestyle events at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou, and also the silver medal in the same events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. read more
