Temporary traffic arrangements at Kai Tak Tunnel and East Kowloon Way next Monday

The Transport Department (TD) today (June 29) reminded members of the public that to facilitate road repair works, the following temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented at the Kai Tak Tunnel and the East Kowloon Way next Monday (July 2):

(i) The eastbound tube of the Kai Tak Tunnel will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 1am to 6am. Traffic along the East Kowloon Way eastbound will be diverted via Kowloon City Road;

(ii) The fast lane of the section of the East Kowloon Way eastbound between Lok Shan Road and Ma Hang Chung Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 6am to 11am; and

(iii) The fast lane of the eastbound tube of the Kai Tak Tunnel will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 6am to 11am.

Due to the lane closure, the TD anticipates that the traffic along the East Kowloon Way eastbound and the Kai Tak Tunnel eastbound will be relatively busy during the above periods. Motorists passing through the road sections concerned should exercise tolerance and patience and drive with utmost care. Appropriate traffic signs will be erected on-site to guide motorists.

Motorists are advised to consider using alternative routes to Kowloon Central and Kowloon East. They are also advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow more travelling time to avoid unexpected delay.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Members of the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

Details of the temporary traffic arrangements are now available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk).

EMSD officially launches online platform for I&T collaboration “E&M InnoPortal” (with photos)

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (June 29) officially launched the online platform for innovation and technology (I&T) collaboration "E&M InnoPortal" at the Innovative Technology Day that the EMSD co-organised with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC). The platform aims at matching the needs of government departments for applying new technologies with I&T projects by start-ups in order to promote the commercialisation of the research and development (R&D) results and also I&T development in Hong Kong.

The EMSD has all along been proactive in applying new technologies to enhance services and supporting the commercialisation of R&D results of I&T enterprises. The newly established "E&M InnoPortal" collects the needs for various technologies from government departments, public organisations and the electrical and mechanical (E&M) trade and publishes them on the platform after compilation for start-ups and academic institutions to offer corresponding I&T solutions. The EMSD will provide suitable venues to field-test E&M-related projects and validate their effectiveness and performance.

At the Innovative Technology Day held at the EMSD Headquarters today, the HKSTPC invited team members of 10 start-ups operating at the Hong Kong Science Park to introduce their R&D results in various aspects such as the Internet of Things, automation, energy efficiency and artificial intelligence, among which were R&D projects that the EMSD assisted in the testing and commercialisation process.

In his opening speech at the Innovative Technology Day, the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Dr David Chung, welcomed the EMSD's new online platform, which offers an additional channel for start-ups and universities to realise their research outcomes. He said the new platform is also conducive to government departments and public organisations' identification of suitable I&T solutions to enhance public service through application of new technologies.

The Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Alfred Sit, said that the EMSD will continue to act as the facilitator and promoter in supporting R&D work by the I&T sector and academic institutions while at the same time identifying opportunities for government departments and public organisations to apply new technologies to promote the development of smart city. Also attending the Innovative Technology Day, the Chief Technology Officer of the HKSTPC, Mr George Tee, said that he was pleased to see enterprises operating at the Science Park share their R&D results with the industry and pointed out that the HKSTPC will continue to identify I&T solutions of high business efficiency for different enterprises and thereby support local product inventions.

The "E&M InnoPortal" has been officially launched on the EMSD's website. Please visit www.emsd.gov.hk/inno.

Speech by SCED at Cambodia – Hong Kong Trade Promotion Forum (English only)

Following is the speech by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, at the Cambodia – Hong Kong Trade Promotion Forum today (June 29):

Mr Chhuon Dara (Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning. It is my great pleasure to be here with you all at this trade promotion forum. I am particularly glad that the Commercial Centre of Cambodia in Hong Kong will be officially opened today. I am confident that the Commercial Centre will further enhance the linkage between Cambodia and Hong Kong, and help step up co-operation between the enterprises of the two places, especially with the increasing mutual co-operation driven by the Belt and Road Initiative.

Three months ago, I led a strong business and professional delegation to visit Phnom Penh of Cambodia. During my stay, I was much impressed by the openness, friendliness and rapid development of the country, and my delegate members were all enthusiastic about the potential opportunities being offered by Cambodia. In the visit, I said Hong Kong and Cambodia were much closer than we thought and together we could foster an even closer economic and trade relationship. I am very delighted that in just a few months' time, our Cambodian colleagues are making a reciprocal visit to Hong Kong, joining the Belt and Road Summit held yesterday, and celebrating the opening of the Commercial Centre today.

Being strategically located at the centre of Asia, and with established international trade networks, world-class infrastructure, well-connected communication and transport networks, Hong Kong is well placed to act as the Belt and Road platform of finance and professional services. The rich pool of professionals underpins our role as a key financial, trade and logistics centre in the region. As an important hub connecting China to the world as well as East and West in many aspects, we stand ready to be the springboard for enterprises in accessing the Mainland market and connecting this part of Asia with the world.

The Belt and Road Initiative is not merely about business. Hong Kong is also ready to partner with Cambodia in taking forward other aspects of the Initiative, such as cultivating the people-to-people bonds. I am glad to know that the business chambers of the two sides (the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Business Association of Cambodia) are joining hands in taking forward a charity project that will provide medical assistance in 10 provinces in Cambodia which will benefit hundreds and thousands of local families. I believe this is just a start, and I would say a very impressive one, which certainly will pave a way for many more such collaborations between the two places.

Over the years, Hong Kong has developed close ties with Cambodia both economically and socially. With the Belt and Road Initiative going ahead at full throttle, our relationship will only get stronger and stronger. Last but not least, let me wish all our Cambodian friends a joyful stay in Hong Kong, and the Commercial Centre every success in your future endeavours.

     Thank you.
