     The Legislative Council (LegCo) and its Committees will hold 11 open meetings during the week from July 2 to 7 in the LegCo Complex. Details of the meetings are available in the meeting schedule attached.

     The information in the meeting schedule is subject to change. Please refer to the "LegCo Calendar" on the LegCo Website (www.legco.gov.hk) for the latest details of meetings.

     Members of the public are welcome to observe open meetings of LegCo and its Committees. Interested individuals and groups are advised to make advance booking of seats by calling the LegCo Secretariat at 3919 3399 during office hours. Members of the public can also listen to or watch all open meetings via the "Webcast" system on the LegCo Website.

      The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (June 29) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of low-pathogenic H5 avian influenza in the Vordingborg Municipality of Denmark, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products, including poultry eggs, from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

      A CFS spokesman said that Hong Kong imported about 388 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 280 000 poultry eggs from Denmark in the first three months of this year.

      "The CFS has contacted the Danish authorities over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the OIE on avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.

Broadcast Complaints

     The CA considered a complaint case involving two television programmes of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), namely, "News Report" broadcast on the I News Channel (renamed as TVB News Channel with effect from August 2017) on December 12, 2016, and "News at 6:30" broadcast on the Jade Channel on February 20, 2017. The CA decided that TVB should be advised to observe more closely the relevant provision in the Generic Code of Practice on Television Programme Standards.      The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is today (June 29) investigating a case of severe paediatric enterovirus (EV) infection, and again urged the public and institutions to maintain strict hand, personal and environmental hygiene.

     The case involves a 1-month-old baby boy with good past health, who has presented with fever since June 21. He is staying at Kwong Wah Hospital in a stable condition.

     His cerebrospinal fluid specimen tested positive for EV upon laboratory testing. The clinical diagnosis was meningitis.

     Initial enquiries revealed that the patient had no recent travel history. His mother had upper respiratory tract infection symptoms recently and is in a stable condition. His father was asymptomatic. Investigations are ongoing.

     A spokesman for the CHP said that as EV infection is transmitted by direct contact with nose and throat discharges, the public should be vigilant and observe the following preventive measures:
 

• Wash hands before eating and after going to the toilet and changing diapers;
• Cover the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing;
• Maintain good ventilation; and
• Thoroughly clean toys or appliances which are contaminated by nasal or oral secretions. 

     Children suffering from EV infection should stay at home and avoid contact with other children until they have recovered.

     The Home Affairs Department will open 18 temporary night heat shelters tonight (June 29) for people in need of the service.
      
     The shelters will be open from 10.30pm until 8am tomorrow.
