EDB to launch new round of E-APP applications tomorrow

The Education Bureau (EDB) will launch a new round of applications under the Electronic Advance Application System for Post-secondary Programmes (E-APP) (www.eapp.gov.hk) tomorrow (December 6) to enable current Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination candidates to make advance applications for full-time locally accredited sub-degree and undergraduate programmes that are not covered under the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) for the 2019/20 academic year (including most of the eligible programmes under the Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong). More than 30 post-secondary institutions and their subsidiaries will take part in the new round of the E-APP.

The E-APP is a free electronic application platform. Applicants may complete one application via the E-APP to apply for most post-secondary programmes that are not covered under the JUPAS. Relevant institutions will process applications from the E-APP as early as possible and may give eligible candidates conditional offers before the announcement of HKDSE Examination results.

The main round of E-APP applications will run from tomorrow until May 14, 2019, and the second round of applications will last from May 21 to June 30, 2019. In general, institutions will first process applications received in the main round.

“Before applying via the E-APP, students may browse the Concourse for Self-financing Post-secondary Education website (www.cspe.edu.hk), which provides information on post-secondary institutions and details of about 450 full-time locally accredited higher diploma, associate degree and undergraduate programmes that are not covered under the JUPAS for the 2019/20 academic year, including their tuition fees, entry requirements, and accreditation and recognition by relevant professional bodies. Institutions’ estimated number of intake places, their application and admission arrangements for the 2019/20 academic year as well as their past admission scores and graduate statistics will also be uploaded onto the Concourse website,” a spokesman for the EDB said.

The Concourse will also provide information on full-time University Grants Committee-funded undergraduate programmes offering senior year places, and self-financing top-up degree programmes in the 2019/20 academic year, so as to help graduates and students of sub-degree programmes plan for their further studies. read more

CE meets Secretary of CPC Shandong Provincial Committee (with photo)

The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, met the Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, Mr Liu Jiayi, at Government House this evening (December 4). The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, was also present.

Mrs Lam welcomed Mr Liu’s first visit to Hong Kong with a delegation in his current capacity to attend the annual Hong Kong Shandong Week and she wished the event a great success.

Mrs Lam pointed out that Hong Kong and Shandong enjoy close economic and trade ties and have frequent exchanges. She said that Hong Kong is the preferred location outside Shandong for financing and listing by Shandong enterprises and that since the listing of Tsingtao Brewery in 1993, which was among the first batch of Mainland enterprises listed in Hong Kong, more than 50 enterprises from Shandong have listed in Hong Kong. She welcomed Shandong enterprises to continue to leverage on Hong Kong’s advantages in finance and other professional services and make use of Hong Kong as the platform to attract foreign investment and “go global”, so as to jointly explore the international market and seize the opportunities arising from the Belt and Road Initiative.

Noting that Shandong has in recent years been keen to develop high-tech industries and create a favourable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, she said that Hong Kong is developing into an international innovation and technology (I&T) centre with the support of the Central People’s Government and that she believes I&T industries in the two places may explore room for enhancing exchanges and co-operation in the future. She also thanked the Shandong Provincial Government for its staunch support for the work of the Shandong Liaison Unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government all along, including providing facilitation for young Hong Kong people to participate in exchanges and internship programmes in Shandong, and expressed the hope that the Shandong Provincial Government would continue to implement various measures to assist Hong Kong people, especially young people, to live and develop careers in the Mainland.
