Modification to road works at Kwu Tung North and Fanling North New Development Area gazetted

     The Government gazetted today (December 14) the modification to the road works at Kwu Tung North New Development Area and Fanling North New Development Area. The works have been authorised by the Chief Executive in Council.
      
     The works comprise of construction of new carriageways, subways, footbridges, roundabouts, re-provisioned accesses, noise barriers, footpaths and cycle tracks; road junction improvement works; and reconstruction of existing carriageways, footbridges, footpaths and cycle tracks. Also included is an approximately 4-kilometre long dual two-lane Fanling Bypass Eastern Section connecting Fanling North New Development Area and Fanling Highway. The modification involves revision of the proposed limit of works area and the associated resumption/clearance limit as well as deletion of some land resumption areas.

Appointment of Chairman of Council of Hong Kong Baptist University

     The Government today (December 14) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Dr Clement Chen Cheng-jen as Chairman of the Council of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2019.

     The Acting Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, welcomed Dr Chen's appointment as HKBU Council Chairman.

     Dr Chen is committed to public service and community service, particularly in the field of education and human resources. He has previously been Chairman of the Vocational Training Council, Chairman of the Youth Education, Employment and Training Task Force, an ex-officio member of the Education Commission, as well as a member of the Council of the Open University of Hong Kong. With his ample experience in public services and thorough knowledge in the post-secondary education sector in Hong Kong, I am confident that Dr Chen will be able to lead HKBU to scale new heights in the years to come," Dr Choi said.

     Dr Choi also paid tribute to Mr Cheng Yan-kee, the outgoing HKBU Council Chairman, for his contribution to the development of HKBU. She said, "Mr Cheng has served HKBU for 20 years. During his tenure as Council Chairman, HKBU successfully carried out a number of important tasks, including the implementation of the new academic structure and several large-scale campus development projects. Mr Cheng's selfless contribution earned him respect from people within and outside the university community."




Appointment of Chairman of Council of Hong Kong Polytechnic University

     The Government today (December 14) announced that the Chief Executive has appointed Dr Lam Tai-fai as Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2019.

     The Acting Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, welcomed Dr Lam's appointment as the PolyU Council Chairman.

     "Dr Lam is committed to public and community service, and has in particular rendered significant contributions to youth development in Hong Kong. On the post-secondary education front, apart from the PolyU Council and Court, he had also served the Court of the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Vocational Training Council. Dr Lam has been appointed as Deputy Chairman of the PolyU Council since January 2016. He has offered wise counsel on the management and strategic development of PolyU with vision and foresight. I am confident that PolyU will continue to scale new heights with Dr Lam at the helm," Dr Choi said.

     Dr Choi also paid tribute to Mr Ignatius Chan Tze-ching, the outgoing PolyU Council Chairman, for his contribution to the development of PolyU during his chairmanship. She said, "Mr Chan has served PolyU for nearly 10 years. During his tenure as the Council Chairman, PolyU has adhered to its tradition of equal emphasis on application and research. PolyU has been actively promoting the development of education and scientific research by establishing a network of co-operation with its global counterparts. Our sincere gratitude goes to Mr Chan for his dedication to higher education matters and his outstanding leadership at PolyU."




Road works in Kwu Tung North and Fanling North New Development Area authorised

     The Chief Executive in Council has authorised the road works under the first stage of site formation and engineering infrastructure at the Kwu Tung North New Development Area and the Fanling North New Development Area. The notice was gazetted today (December 14).
      
     Details of the works are set out in the Annex.




Proposed sewerage works under Advance Site Formation and Engineering Infrastructure Works at Kwu Tung North and Fanling North New Development Areas gazetted

     The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (December 14) on the proposed sewerage works under the Advance Site Formation and Engineering Infrastructure Works at Kwu Tung North and Fanling North New Development Areas (KTN and FLN NDAs). The sewerage works have been authorised by the Chief Executive in Council.

     A Government spokesman said that the sewerage scheme will provide the essential sewerage infrastructure for collecting and conveying sewage arising from the proposed development plan at the KTN and FLN NDAs for proper treatment and disposal.

     The sewerage scheme comprises the following:

(i) construction of rising mains, gravity sewers, sewage pumping stations and associated manholes for the KTN and FLN NDAs; and

(ii) ancillary works including reinstatement of carriageways, cycle tracks, footpaths, alleys and open spaces.

     Construction works for the sewerage scheme are to be carried out in conjunction with the proposed road works for Advance Site Formation and Engineering Infrastructure Works at KTN and FLN NDAs by the Civil Engineering and Development Department.

     Details of the sewerage scheme were published in the Government Gazette on December 31, 2015, and January 8, November 18 and November 25, 2016.
