Vacancy in Yuen Long District Council

     The Government declared by notice in the Gazette today (April 11) the vacancy of an elected seat in the Yuen Long District Council San Tin Constituency.

     In accordance with section 26(c) of the District Councils Ordinance (Cap 547), the office of Mr Man Kwong-ming, an elected member of the Yuen Long District Council San Tin Constituency, has become vacant since March 8, 2019.




Key statistics on service demand of A&E Departments and occupancy rates in public hospitals

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     During the winter surge, the Hospital Authority (HA) is closely monitoring the service demand of Accident and Emergency Departments and the occupancy rate in public hospitals. Key service statistics are being issued daily for public information. Details are in the appended table.

     In addition, the weekly bulletin "Surge in Brief" (appended) is issued every Thursday to illustrate the past month's trends of key service statistics in public hospitals. "Surge in Brief" can be accessed in the HA Winter Surge designated webpage (www.ha.org.hk/goto/wintersurge/en).




Re-opening of Government Secretariat Tender Box

     The Government Secretariat Tender Box (GSTB) located at G/F, East Wing, Central Government Offices, Tamar, which was previously closed, has been re-opened to receive tenders for the Central Tender Board.

     Tenders must be deposited in the tender box as specified in the tender notice (Specified Tender Box) before the specified tender closing time. Late tenders and tenders not deposited in the Specified Tender Box will not be processed.

Hongkong Post to issue “Our Police Force” special stamps (with photos)

     Hongkong Post announced today (April 11) that a set of special stamps on the theme "Our Police Force" and associated philatelic products will be released for sale on April 30 (Tuesday).
 
     Since its inception in 1844, the Hong Kong Police Force has taken on the mantle of maintaining law and order in society and safeguarding and protecting the lives and property of Hong Kong people. Sparing no effort in achieving its vision that "Hong Kong remains one of the safest and most stable societies in the world", the Force keeps up with the times and strives for continuous improvement in every aspect of its activities. With its relentless efforts, crime rates in the territory continue to drop and this makes Hong Kong a better place in which to live and do business. To help the public understand more about this outstanding disciplined service, Hongkong Post will issue a set of six special stamps and a stamp sheetlet to showcase the dynamics of police work.

     Along with preparing the "Our Police Force" special stamps, Hongkong Post has created a number of mini-games that run on mobile phones. By scanning the six specially designed stamps with the "HKPostStamps" mobile app, customers will be able to learn more about the work of the Police through the mini-games behind each stamp. These games can also help to raise awareness of customers against crimes, e.g. cyber fraud.
 
     The updated version of the mobile app "HKPostStamps" can be downloaded from the App Store (for iOS devices), the Play Store (for Android devices) and the Hongkong Post Stamps website (www.hongkongpoststamps.hk) from April 30 onwards. This mobile app also provides quick access to online shopping via ShopThruPost (shopthrupost.hongkongpost.hk), enabling people to purchase Hongkong Post's philatelic products anytime and anywhere.
 
     Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.30 each from tomorrow (April 12) at all post offices and the special stamps and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from tomorrow to April 18.

Murder in Kowloon City

     Police are investigating a murder case in Kowloon City last night (April 10) in which a 40-year-old non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) woman died.

     At about 9.50pm yesterday, Police received a report from a 37-year-old NEC man that he killed his 40-year-old NEC wife inside a unit on Pang Ching Street.

     Police officers sped to the scene and found the 40-year-old NEC woman lying unconsciously on a bed. Sustaining injuries to her head and hands, she was certified dead at scene.

     Initial investigation revealed that the 37-year-old NEC man has fought with the 40-year-old woman yesterday morning.

     The 37-year-old NEC man has been arrested for murder and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.

     Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Kowloon City District is underway.
