Tenders invited for Fanling North New Development Area, Phase 1: Reprovisioning of North District Temporary Wholesale Market for Agricultural Products

     â€‹The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (May 17) invited tenders for the contract for Fanling North New Development Area, Phase 1: Reprovisioning of North District Temporary Wholesale Market for Agricultural Products (Contract No. ND/2019/06).
      
     The works are scheduled to commence in September 2019 and will take about 19 months to complete. The works mainly comprise:
 

  • construction of an in-situ reprovisioned North District Temporary Wholesale Market for Agricultural Products and its facilities which mainly comprise a steel canopy covering the trading area and a management office building;
  • construction of a temporary trading area and its facilities during the construction stage; and
  • ancillary works including footpaths, lighting, traffic aids, drainage, sewerage, water mains, landscaping works, slope improvement works and electrical and mechanical works.

     The CEDD has appointed AECOM Asia Company Limited as the consultant to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors can obtain the tender forms and other particulars from the company at 8/F, Grand Central Plaza, Tower 2, 138 Shatin Rural Committee Road, Sha Tin.
      
     The invitation to tender was gazetted today. The closing time for the tender is noon on July 5, 2019.

Special traffic arrangements on Hong Kong Island

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements this Sunday (May 19) to facilitate a public order event to be held on Hong Kong Island.

     The following roads will be intermittently closed from 2.30pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic resumes normal:

– Eastbound Des Voeux Road Central between Ice House Street and Murray Road;
– Eastbound Queensway between Des Voeux Road Central and Tamar Street;
– Northbound Murray Road;
– Northbound Tamar Street;
– Harcourt Road; and
– If necessary, the rightmost lane of Garden Road flyover.

     Vehicles may not be permitted to access or leave car parks along the route during the road closure period.

     Actual implementation of the traffic arrangements will be made depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the area. Motorists are advised to exercise tolerance and patience and take heed of instructions of the Police on site.




Special traffic arrangements for race meeting in Sha Tin tomorrow

     Police advise motorists that special traffic arrangements will be implemented in Sha Tin to facilitate the race meeting tomorrow (May 18).

     The arrangements will come into effect two hours before the start of the first race and will last until the crowds have dispersed after the race meeting.

     Appropriate traffic signs will be put up and police will be on hand to guide motorists.

     The Police also appeal to people going to Sha Tin Racecourse for the race meeting and to Happy Valley Racecourse for cross betting to make maximum use of public transport.

     Parking spaces at the two racecourses are available only to holders of appropriate permits issued by Hong Kong Jockey Club and any vehicles illegally parked will be towed away.

     




Inter-departmental drill on emergency response to flooding in Tai O (with photos)

     The Islands District Office (IDO), in collaboration with relevant government departments and local organisations, conducted a rescue and evacuation drill today (May 17) to enhance their preparedness in the event of serious flooding in Tai O and to promote residents' understanding of the emergency response arrangements.
      
     The Fire Services Department (FSD), the Police, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), the Drainage Services Department (DSD), the Social Welfare Department (SWD), the Housing Department, the Civil Aid Service (CAS), the Tai O Rural Committee, the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association Tai O Community Work Office participated in the drill.

     According to the emergency response plan, when HKO forecasts that the sea level at Tai O will rise to 3.3 metres Chart Datum (mCD) or more in the next few hours during a tropical cyclone, the HKO will issue an early alert by SMS to relevant government departments/organisations and resident representatives/fishermen representatives.  Upon receipt of the early alert, IDO will activate an emergency co-ordination centre at the Tai O Rural Committee Office, jointly set up by the IDO, the FSD, the Police, the SWD, other government departments concerned and relevant non-governmental organisations. The emergency co-ordination centre will co-ordinate any necessary evacuation, rescue and emergency relief efforts for Tai O.

     Meanwhile, upon receipt of the early alert from HKO, the resident representatives/fishermen representatives will help to disseminate the information to residents so that they can stay vigilant for flooding and take refuge in safe locations if needed. Temporary shelters at the Tai O Rural Committee Office, the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association Tai O Community Work Office on the ground floor of Lung Tin Shopping Centre as well as the Lung Tin Transit Centre will be opened for residents in need.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has announced that the lifesaving services at Cafeteria Old Beach in Tuen Mun District resumed today (May 17). The lifesaving services at the beach were suspended earlier due to an insufficient number of lifeguards on duty.
