Do not touch broken electrical conductors during typhoons

     During a typhoon, you are advised not to touch any broken electrical cables. Report such cases to the electricity companies immediately. Touching broken electrical conductors can cause an electric shock and may result in fatality.




Public urged not to visit beaches for water sports activities during passage of typhoon

Please broadcast the following as soon as possible:
 
     As Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 is in force, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (November 14) that all gazetted beaches under its management are temporarily closed. In accordance with the Bathing Beaches Regulation under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Cap. 132, sub. leg. E), any failure to comply with the temporary closure arrangements is an offence and the offender will be liable to a maximum fine of $2,000 and imprisonment up to 14 days upon conviction.

     Members of the public should stay away from the shoreline during inclement weather, and should not conduct any water sports activities on beaches to avoid causing danger to themselves and rescue personnel.




Classes of all AM and whole-day schools are suspended

     Attention TV and radio duty announcers:

     Please broadcast the following special announcement by the Education Bureau concerning schools, and repeat it at suitable intervals:

     As the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 8 is now in force, classes of all AM and whole-day schools (including kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability, schools for children with intellectual disability, primary and secondary schools) are suspended today.

     If the Hong Kong Observatory replaces it with the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 3 before 10.30am, classes of PM primary and secondary schools and classes of evening schools will resume today.

     If the Hong Kong Observatory replaces it with the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no.1 or cancels all signals before 10.30am, classes of PM schools and classes of evening schools will resume today.




Tropical Cyclone Toraji situation report (1)

     The Hong Kong Observatory issued No. 8 Northeast Gale or Storm Signal at 11.10pm yesterday (November 13).
 
     The Home Affairs Department has so far opened 27 temporary shelters in various districts and 101 people have sought refuge at the shelters.
 
     As at 2am today (November 14), the Government's 1823 Call Centre received one report of fallen trees. The Fire Services Department and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department have not received any reports of fallen trees. No report of landslide or flooding has been received so far.
 
     According to the Hospital Authority, as at 2am today, no people have sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Departments at public hospitals during the typhoon period.




United Christian Hospital appeals to public about missing patient

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     â€‹The spokesperson for the United Christian Hospital (UCH) made the following appeal today (November 14) regarding an inpatient leaving the hospital without notifying hospital staff:
      
     A 44-year-old male patient left the Orthopaedic and Traumatology ward without notification at around 6pm yesterday(November 13).
      
     Security guards were deployed to search for the patient within the hospital compound and in the vicinity. The hospital also made a report to the Police for assistance. The patient is yet to be located.
      
     The patient is about 1.7 meters tall, short black hair and of medium body build. According to closed-circuit television footage, the patient was wearing patient clothes and white pants with intravenous catheters on both his left hand and right hand when he left the hospital.
      
     The hospital is very concerned about the incident and will fully co-operate with the Police in order to locate the patient. The hospital appeals to the public to contact the hospital at 3949 4002 or the Police if they know the whereabouts of the patient.
      
     UCH has reported the case to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advanced Incident Reporting System.
