Tenders invited for Kwu Tung North New Development Area, Phase 1: Site Formation and Infrastructure Works

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (June 21) invited tenders for the contract for Kwu Tung North New Development Area, Phase 1: Site Formation and Infrastructure Works (Contract No. ND/2019/01).
      
     The works are scheduled to commence in November 2019 and will take about 73 months to complete. The works mainly comprise:
 

  • site formation of land under the First Phase of Kwu Tung North New Development Area (including soil treatment works);
  • construction of engineering infrastructure including drainage works, sewerage works (including temporary sewage treatment facilities), waterworks (including a fresh water service reservoir and a flushing water service reservoir), roadworks (including carriageway, footpaths, cycle tracks, a subway and junction improvement), pipeworks for a district cooling system, slope works and landscaping works; and
  • construction of associated environmental mitigation works including noise barriers/noise enclosures and low-noise road surfacing.

     The CEDD has appointed AECOM Asia Company Limited as the consultant to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors can obtain the tender forms and other particulars from the company at 8/F, Grand Central Plaza, Tower 2, 138 Sha Tin Rural Committee Road, Sha Tin.
      
     The invitation to tender was gazetted today. The closing time for the tender is noon on August 16, 2019.

Rescheduling of LegCo committee meeting

Services at Labour Department’s Recruitment Centres for the Catering Industry and Retail Industry as well as Hong Kong East Job Centre suspended

     The Labour Department announced today (June 21) that, due to passageway blockage at Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, services at the Recruitment Centre for the Catering Industry and the Recruitment Centre for the Retail Industry, both located on G/F, and the Hong Kong East Job Centre on 34/F are suspended this afternoon.




Correctional officers stop person in custody attempting suicide by hanging

     Correctional officers stopped a 29-year-old female person in custody attempting suicide by hanging in the institution hospital of Tai Lam Centre for Women today (June 21).

     At 7.56am today, a correctional officer found the person in custody attempting suicide by hanging herself with a bedsheet tied to the grille bars of the cell inside the institution hospital. The officer immediately called for reinforcement and stopped the act. The person in custody was found conscious. She did not need to be sent to a public hospital after receiving treatment provided by the institution Medical Officer. A clinical psychologist of the department will follow up on the case.

     The department uses all possible measures to prevent persons in custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services.

     The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug in October 2018.
