Oil spill sighted at some beaches

     Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said today (July 22) that because of an oil spill, red flags have been hoisted at Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach, Lido Beach, Casam Beach, Approach Beach, Hoi Mei Wan Beach and Ting Kau Beach in Tsuen Wan District. The beaches have been closed until further notice. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.




Anglers’ Beach temporarily closed

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (July 22) that Anglers' Beach in Tsuen Wan District is temporarily closed until further notice for maintenance of the shark prevention net. The red flag has been hoisted at the beach. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at the beach.




S for IT to leave for Beijing for closing ceremony of CAS Youth Internship Programme

     The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, will leave for Beijing today (July 22) for the closing ceremony of the Youth Internship Programme at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to be held tomorrow (July 23).

     The Youth Internship Programme is organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and co-organised by the CAS and the Hong Kong Volunteers Association. Under the six-week internship, 49 tertiary students from Hong Kong have been assigned to research units under the CAS in areas such as artificial intelligence, intelligent robots, autonomous vehicles, mathematics, physics and life sciences. The research units involved are the Institute of Automation, the Institute of Computing Technology, the Institute of Software, the Institute of Mathematics, the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Microbiology.
      
     Mr Yang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon. In his absence, the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Dr David Chung, will act as Secretary for Innovation and Technology.

CGO opens as usual today

     The Central Government Offices (CGO), Tamar will be open as usual today (July 22). Staff working in the CGO can enter the workplace via staff entrance on 2/F of the East Wing.

     Government vehicles or vehicles with valid CGO permit may enter West Wing of CGO via Lung Wo Road and Tim Wa Avenue.
