The Marine Department has received notification from the Hong Kong Pilots Association Limited that due to the tropical cyclone, the pilotage service will be suspended from 2pm today (July 31). Shipowners, agents, masters and other port users are advised to pay attention.

​As the Hong Kong Observatory will consider issuing the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 between noon and 2pm, classes of all schools are suspended today. Schools should implement contingency measures to ensure the safety of students. They should ensure that conditions are safe before allowing students to return home.
The Boys' Brigade, Hong Kong has been issued a Public Subscription Permit to hold a territory-wide flag sale from 7am to 12.30pm today (July 31), a spokesman for the Social Welfare Department (SWD) said.

Details of the charitable fund-raising activities covered by the Public Subscription Permit issued by the SWD have also been uploaded to the GovHK website (www.gov.hk/fundraising).
In the case of suspected fraudulent flag day activities, people should not make any donation and should immediately report the matter to the Police, the spokesman added.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (July 31) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Deep Water Bay Beach, Repulse Bay Beach, Middle Bay Beach, South Bay Beach, Chung Hom Kok Beach, St Stephen's Beach, Stanley Main Beach, Turtle Cove Beach, Shek O Beach and Big Wave Bay Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island; Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Lo So Shing Beach, Kwun Yam Beach, Cheung Chau Tung Wan Beach, Silver Mine Bay Beach, Pui O Beach, Upper Cheung Sha Beach, Lower Cheung Sha Beach and Tong Fuk Beach in Islands District; and Silverstrand Beach, Clear Water Bay First Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Sai Kung District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (July 31) that as lifeguards are unable to go to Hap Mun Bay Beach, Kiu Tsui Beach and Trio Beach in Sai Kung District by ferries due to rough sea condition, lifesaving services at these beaches have been suspended until further notice. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches until further notice.
