Tung Wah Eastern Hospital announces Influenza A cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH) made the following announcement today (July 31):

     Three patients (aged 81 to 87) in a female geriatric ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since July 26. Appropriate viral test had been arranged for the patients and all the results were positive to Influenza A. The patients are still hospitalised under isolation with stable condition.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.

     The Marine Department has announced that Tuen Mun Typhoon Shelter is now full.

     Local vessels are advised to use other typhoon shelters. 




Tuen Mun Area 38 Fill Bank closed

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department today (July 31) announced that due to the typhoon signal no. 8, the Tuen Mun Area 38 Fill Bank has been closed until further notice.




SENT Landfill to be closed

     The Environmental Protection Department announced today (July 31) that due to typhoon, the South East New Territories Landfill in Tseung Kwan O will be closed at 3.40pm.




Correctional officers stop fight among persons in custody

     Correctional officers at Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution stopped a fight among persons in custody yesterday (July 30).

     At 12.37pm yesterday, three male persons in custody aged between 39 and 43 were found fighting inside the dining hall. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the fight and called for reinforcement.

     During the incident, one person in custody sustained injuries to his eye and chest etc. He was referred to a public hospital for further examination and treatment after the treatment by the institution Medical Officer. The other two persons in custody did not sustain any injury.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The three persons in custody were respectively sentenced to imprisonment for the offences of theft and trafficking in a dangerous drug.
