50 Shades of Tay – A Flash Fiction Celebration

Dundee Writing Group, the Nethergate Writers, has published a new volume of flash fiction.

50 Shades of Tay comprises fifty 50-word pieces of prose and poetry that celebrate people and places along the Tay.

There’s something for everyone in this pocket-sized book.   From memories of the Fifie, to sledging on the Law; reflections on the river to the wonders of karaoke at Dundee’s Club Bar.

Nethergate Writers collaborated with local design studio, Pulse North, to create images to accompany some of the pieces and a striking cover design that takes its visual cues from the river.

The book will be launched at Waterstones Dundee at 6pm this Thursday – 23rd August – and the Nethergate Writers invite readers old and new to join them in celebrating their favourite Shades of Tay.

Getting things done – Lime Street/Glenagnes Street #dundeewestend

Last week I had a site visit with some Logie area residents about a number of local issues.

One of these was the damaged state of the roadway at the junction of Lime Street/Glenagnes Street – see below :

I raised this with the council’s Roads Maintenance Partnership and have now received the following positive response :

“The inspection has been out to visit the location and has raised CAT 3 orders to have the potholes filled.”

33rd Annual General Meeting of the One World Centre

You are warmly invited to attend the 33rd Annual General Meeting of the One World Centre on Tuesday 21st August which is to be held in Lecture Theatre 1 (LT1) on the ground floor of the Dalhousie Building on University of Dundee’s main campus.  Staff and committee members will be welcoming attendees from 5.15pm with a group photo planned before the talk at 5.30pm.
This year we are very fortunate to have Dr. Husam AlWaer, Senior Lecturer at the University of Dundee, joining us to talk about his research on the urbanism of refugee camps.  Often considered as temporary places built in response to a crisis, the truth is that these camps exist for years, and Dr. AlWaer will show that when refugees can make changes to their space, they can make changes to their lives.
The AGM is built around the idea that everyone has a story, and along with Dr. AlWaer, One World Centre will celebrate the differences that can be made by sharing stories; stories that we hear and stories we are a part of.  With this in mind, we will hold a collection on behalf of Lend With Care – www.lendwithcare.org – which provides access to sustainable funds and allows recipients to change their own story.

From 6.30pm there will be refreshments and information about One World World Centre, including Annual Reports.  Membership forms and Nomination forms for the Management Committee will be available throughout the evening.
Spaces are limited so please click here to book your place now.
