Anti-racism protests
The plenary will begin on Wednesday with a debate about the protests against racism and police brutality that have swept the US and EU following the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. MEPs will vote on a resolution on Friday.
Budget and economic recovery
The EU’s long-term budget and economic recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis will also be discussed on Wednesday, ahead of the summit on 19 June at which President David Sassoli will address EU leaders.
EU-UK relations
MEPs will discuss the future of EU-UK relations on Wednesday and vote on Parliament’s position on the ongoing talks on Thursday. On Monday, President David Sassoli, together with Council President Charles Michel and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, will meet UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Opening EU’s internal borders
MEPs will discuss ways to lift border controls and travel restrictions in the Schengen zone on Wednesday and are expected to demand a swift reopening of the EU’s internal borders and the re-establishment of free movement in a resolution to be voted on Friday.
Future of Europe
On Thursday, MEPs are expected to call for the Conference on the Future of Europe to take place as soon as possible after summer and for people to be at the centre.
Disinformation and fundamental rights
MEPs will discuss the impact of disinformation campaigns during the Covid-19 pandemic on freedom of expression on Thursday morning.
