Appointments to Human Organ Transplant Board

     The Government announced today (February 11) the appointment of a new substantive member and two new panel members as well as the re-appointment of two serving substantive members, five panel members and a legal adviser to the Human Organ Transplant Board. The appointments will be effective from February 15, 2021, for a term of three years.
      
     Serving panel member Dr Thomas Yau Chung-cheung has been appointed as a substantive member while Ms Hsu Siu-man and Professor Carmen Wong have been newly appointed as panel members.
      
     The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, welcomed the new members. She also thanked the outgoing members for their invaluable contributions to and support for the Board all along.
      
     Established under section 3 of the Human Organ Transplant Ordinance (Cap. 465), the Board is tasked to consider applications made for the Board's written approval to carry out restricted organ removal and/or restricted organ transplant, to receive prescribed information about transplant operations and certificates accompanying imported organs, and to perform any other functions that the Board is required or permitted to perform under the Ordinance.
      
     As prescribed under section 3A of Cap. 465, the constitution of the Board includes nine substantive members and 14 panel members from the medical, social work, legal and non-medical sectors. 
      
     The full membership of the Board with effect from February 15, 2021, is as follows:
