The Government announced today (May 12) that Dr Lee Wai-on, Assistant Government Chemist, will take up the post of Government Chemist on May 16, 2022. He will succeed Dr Sin Wai-mei, who will commence her pre-retirement leave in November 2022.
Commenting on the appointment of Dr Lee, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Patrick Nip, said, "Dr Lee possesses profound professional knowledge and experience, and has proven leadership and management skills. I am confident that he will be able to lead the Government Laboratory to meet the challenges ahead."
On the pending retirement of Dr Sin, Mr Nip said, "Dr Sin has served with professionalism and commitment in the civil service throughout the years. As Government Chemist, Dr Sin has made sustained efforts in leading the department to provide our community with quality analytical, forensic and advisory services. I wish her a fulfilling and happy retirement."

Dr Sin Wai-mei

Dr Sin joined the Government as Executive Officer II in November 1986. She was appointed as Chemist of the Government Laboratory in October 1988. She was promoted to Chief Chemist in November 2007 and to Assistant Government Chemist in June 2011. She has been Government Chemist since August 2015.
Dr Lee Wai-on

Dr Lee joined the Government as Chemist in October 1988. He was promoted to Chief Chemist in March 2013 and to Assistant Government Chemist in August 2016.
