Appointment of Director of Health (with photo)
The Government announced today (September 17) that Dr Ronald Lam Man-kin, Controller, Centre for Health Protection, will take up the post of Director of Health on September 21, 2021, when Dr Constance Chan Hon-yee commences her pre-retirement leave.
Commenting on the appointment of Dr Lam, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Patrick Nip, said, "Dr Lam possesses profound professional knowledge and experience, and has proven leadership and management skills. I am confident that he will be able to lead the Department of Health to meet the challenges ahead."
On the retirement of Dr Chan, Mr Nip said, "Dr Chan has served with professionalism and commitment in the civil service throughout the past 33 years. As Director of Health, Dr Chan has made sustained efforts in leading the department to safeguard the health of the community through promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services. In the face of the severe COVID-19 pandemic, she has displayed resolve and perseverance in leading the department to rise to the challenges. I wish her a fulfilling and happy retirement."

Dr Constance Chan

Dr Chan joined the Government as a Medical and Health Officer in February 1988. She was promoted to Principal Medical and Health Officer in July 1996, to Assistant Director of Health in August 2000 and to Controller, Centre for Food Safety in May 2009 before being appointed as Director of Health in June 2012.
Dr Ronald Lam

Dr Lam joined the Government as a Medical and Health Officer in July 1997. He was promoted to Principal Medical and Health Officer in August 2008, to Assistant Director of Health in July 2013 and to Deputy Director of Health in June 2020.
