The Government today (December 17) announced that the Chief Executive, in her capacity as the Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), has appointed Ms Priscilla Wong Pui-sze as Chairman of the HKU Council for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2022.

The Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, welcomed Ms Wong's appointment as the HKU Council Chairman.

"Ms Wong has extensive experience in public services. She has been a member of the HKU Council since 2017 and is currently the Chairperson of the Minimum Wage Commission and the Chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Council. On the post-secondary education front, apart from the HKU Council, she served on the HKU Court and the Council of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. As a committed leader in society, Ms Wong has excellent capability and ample experience in extensive areas. I am confident that HKU will continue to scale new heights with Ms Wong at the helm," he said.

Mr Yeung also expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Council Chairman, Professor Arthur Li. "Professor Li has been the Chairman of the HKU Council since January 2016. Under his sterling leadership, HKU capitalised on its position as one of the world's top-tier universities by attracting and nurturing global scholars through excellence in research, teaching and learning, and knowledge exchange. HKU also actively engaged itself with the Mainland and other parts of the world to deepen internationalisation with brilliant results. On behalf of the Government, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Professor Li for his longstanding leadership and contributions," he said.
