Appointment of Chairman of Council of Education University of Hong Kong
The Government announced today (November 13) that the Chief Executive had appointed Dr David Wong Yau-kar as the Chairman of the Council of the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2021.
The Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, welcomed Dr Wong's appointment as the EdUHK Council Chairman.
"Dr Wong has a distinguished academic background with extensive experience in business, industry, and policy research. A prominent leader in society, he is dedicated to public service. He is currently the Chairman of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, as well as a member of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, and the Chief Executive's Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development. I have full confidence in him leading the university in pursuing excellence and scaling new heights," he said.
Mr Yeung also thanked the outgoing Council Chairman, Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang. "Professor Ma has been the Chairman of the EdUHK Council since April 2017. Under his steerage, the EdUHK has, through nurturing outstanding and committed educators and professionals, continued to lead educational innovation, promote and support the strategic development of teacher education in Hong Kong. On behalf of the Government, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Professor Ma for his contribution," he said.
