In view of three recent wild pig attacks in a short period of time at Mount Parker Road in Eastern District, staff of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) conducted investigation and capture operations in the area these few days to safeguard public safety. This afternoon (April 20), an AFCD veterinarian used a dart gun to capture two wild pigs, which had actively snatched food from people, for humane dispatch through medicine injection.
Since the announcement of the new strategy for management of wild pigs in November 2021, as of today the AFCD has captured and humanely dispatched a total of 76 wild pigs that had caused nuisance near urban or residential areas, or posed potential risks to public safety. The latest information on wild pigs captured and humanely dispatched is available at the AFCD's website via the following link for public reference: www.afcd.gov.hk/english/conservation/con_fau/con_fau_nui/con_fau_nui_pig/con_fau_nui_pig.html.
