The Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, Ms Li Na, led a Mainland delegation to Hong Kong to ensure the stable supply of quality and safe agricultural products from the Mainland to Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year and review the situation of the food supply from the Mainland to Hong Kong. The delegation, composed of representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, aims to ensure people in Hong Kong have a sufficient supply of high-quality and diversified food. The delegation, accompanied by the representatives of the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, visited the Po On Road Market and the Western Wholesale Food Market this morning to study the supply of fresh food.

The Mainland is the primary source of agricultural products, especially live and fresh food, for Hong Kong. Relevant agencies on the Mainland, based on the principles of "high quality, appropriate amount, balance, seasonality", have long attached great importance to the quality, safety and stability of food supplied to Hong Kong, and established a closely connected liaison mechanism with Hong Kong. As the bases for supplying fresh food to Hong Kong continue to expand, the quality and variety of products supplied to Hong Kong have been enhanced, showcasing the country's support and concern for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This has played a crucial role in stabilising prices and ensuring the supply of fresh food to Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year.

â€‹As the Chinese New Year is approaching, the Ministry of Commerce has instructed all relevant Mainland agencies to ensure the stable supply of quality and safe agricultural products to Hong Kong during the festive season by attaching importance on the stable supply of food, strengthening the sources of supply and enhancing contingency plans. Relevant departments of the two places will continue to maintain close co-operation and communication with a view to ensuring safety and a steady supply of food products to Hong Kong from the Mainland.
