The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:

The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed today (October 28) on the latest developments of the Smart and Green Mass Transit System (SGMTS) projects.

Since the Chief Executive announced the implementation of the SGMTS in East Kowloon, Kai Tak and Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen (HSK/HT) New Development Area (NDA) in the 2023 Policy Address, the Government has been actively taking forward the preparatory work of these three projects. To further ascertain the market's interest and capability in constructing and operating the SGMTS in East Kowloon and Kai Tak, the Government invited relevant suppliers and operators to submit expressions of interest (EOI) for the East Kowloon and Kai Tak projects respectively in August this year. The information collected will serve as a reference for ascertaining the technical details, delivery modes and financial arrangements of the projects. The Government will also invite suppliers and operators to submit EOI for the HSK/HT project by the end of this year.

The TAC Chairman, Professor Stephen Cheung, said, "Members support the use of SGMTS as light and green feeder services to nearby railway stations and major public transport interchanges in East Kowloon, Kai Tak and HSK/HT NDA. This will be the first time the SGMTS is introduced in Hong Kong. Members also acknowledged the Government's efforts in compressing the implementation programmes of these three projects through an innovative mindset, enabling the public to enjoy the benefits as early as possible."
